The Spanish Data Protection Agency ordered the parents of a 13-year-old boy, who created a fake Instagram account of another boy, to pay compensation of 10,000 euros.
He created a fake Instagram profile to which he uploaded the profile picture of a second boy, which the latter had uploaded to his social networks. He then uploaded a video of an adult male masturbating. When the second boy's mother found out, she filed a complaint, and the perpetrator was found. The perpetrator said it was a joke.
This interesting ruling is a reminder that in Spain, parents are responsible for their children's use of new technologies (article 61 Organic Law 5/2000 of 12 January). Read more.
