The future Directive will oblige employers to inform candidates what the starting salary will be in the same vacancy notice or before the job interview.
The proposal just presented by the Commission will now be forwarded to the European Parliament and the Council for adoption. Once the process has been completed, Member States will have two years to transpose the Directive into national law. In addition, after eight years, the Commission will carry out an evaluation of this Directive.
The European proposal, adopted in consideration of the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in companies and its serious consequences that exacerbate gender inequalities, focuses on two fundamental factors to achieve equal pay: on the one hand, a block of measures to guarantee pay transparency; and, on the other hand, a set of measures to facilitate access to justice for victims of pay discrimination.
