The Provincial Court of Palma de Mallorca upheld the conviction of a minor for harassing another pupil at a private school, and ordered the school to pay him 1,500 euros in compensation as jointly and severally liable.
The magistrates consider that the measures adopted by the school were insufficient and were not adapted to the circumstances.
The convicted minor had been harassing the other child for almost six months in the same school where they both studied. The convicted minor repeatedly intimidated and assaulted him, taking advantage of the occasions when he came across him to push him, raise his fist, hit him, and even corner him against a wall. This harassment caused the victim to suffer a drop in his school performance, as well as a state of anxiety, restlessness and even the idea of suicide, which led him to need psychological treatment.
