A Madrid court has ordered a clinic to pay compensation to a woman who went blind in one eye for failing to treat her properly in the days following the operation. Although the operation took place without complications, the judge considers that there was malpractice during the postoperative period.

In January 2018, the plaintiff, who was on holiday in the Canary Islands, went to an ophthalmologist's surgery after feeling discomfort in her left eye. Once she was examined, she was told that she had to return urgently to the mainland to undergo surgery for retinal detachment.

Two days later she underwent surgery and, although the operation went smoothly, the following day she began to feel discomfort, vomiting, her face was swollen and she felt numb in the middle of her skull, face and ears. Read more.
